Creolization in the Spanish Speaking Caribbean              Welcome back friends, here we are for one last time speaking about Creolization in the Caribbean. The last area we have to cover is the Spanish Speaking Caribbean. From the lecture video one of the examples of creolization that stood out to me is the " La Tumba Francesa, (The French Drum.)  "           La Tumba Francesa was brought by Haitians slaves who moved to Cuba after there was some issues within their country during the 1970's. It is a section of the afro-cuban music styles.  This music style is led by a solo singer singing in Spanish or creole.  UNESCO states, "the catá, a large wooden idiophone, bursts into a pulsating beat enhanced by three drums known as tumbas." Tumba Francesa fuses French court dances with African music, colonial fashion appropriated by slaves.  (“UNESCO - La Tumba Francesa,” n.d.) Dutch-Speaking Creolization

Hello Friends and Welcome Back!      Today, we are going to cover what types of Creolization happens in the Dutch Speaking Caribbean.  In the textbook , " Tour de Force" chapter three there are a few examples of Creolization.      One example that stood out to me is the creation of string bands. What makes this a topic of creolization is that as the book states, " evolved from the ensembles that played European dance music...... Enslaved domestic workers often played in these ensembles; their participation contributed to merging of the melodies and instruments of Europe with the rhythms and playing styles of the Caribbean region." This means that string bands came from the combination of European Dance music and playing styles of the Caribbean.     Google. (n.d.). String Bands . In this blog post we will look into two of these examples for the textbook.       One of the first examples is Zouk . Zouk is a music style that results from combining Haitian compas music and Beguine from Martinique . The textbook states that Zouk is an," amalgamation of a wide variety of local and imported musical styles." The picture below is an image of the French band Kassav' . Hey, Carneisha again and I'm here with some more info on Creolization.      As we know from the previous post, creolization can be seen in many different aspects of culture, music, food, dance etc.      The first example of creolization we are going to explore from the textbook, " Tour de Force: A Musical Journey of the Caribbean,"   is Calypso. Trinidad and Tobago Calypso is explained in this text as an evolution of a mix of French Caribbean, European, African and probably Venezuelan music. Calypso is described as a " Vehicle for Social Protest."  71 Calypso Music Facts: Origins, Artists, Instruments And Much More . (n.d.). Kidadl . I chose this video because it is a combination of music from different artist, which allows you a chance to choose which artist and songs you like...

Creolization in The Caribbean

Good day, my name is Carneisha Rolle. The focus of this blog today is Creolization with respect to Caribbean. According to the textbook “Tour de Force”, Creolization is defined as “The process of cultural exchange that results when multiple cultures come into contact and mix. The resulting cultural products are unique, combining elements of the original cultures with new and distinct ones.” This means that musical and or cultural traditions come together to form a new culture. This new culture is unique and has parts of each of its forefathers or cultures it is derived from. Features of a culture that can be Creolized include music, food, and language.  Creolization is a result of the migration of persons from one culture and place to another place within the world that has a different culture.  Derived from the textbook an example of Creolization is Tambutronic mqusic. Ro ë l Calister combined tamb ú beats with electronic dance music to create Tambutronic which is a musical...
