Creolization in The Caribbean

Good day, my name is Carneisha Rolle. The focus of this blog today is Creolization with respect to Caribbean. According to the textbook “Tour de Force”, Creolization is defined as “The process of cultural exchange that results when multiple cultures come into contact and mix. The resulting cultural products are unique, combining elements of the original cultures with new and distinct ones.” This means that musical and or cultural traditions come together to form a new culture. This new culture is unique and has parts of each of its forefathers or cultures it is derived from. Features of a culture that can be Creolized include music, food, and language.  Creolization is a result of the migration of persons from one culture and place to another place within the world that has a different culture.

Derived from the textbook an example of Creolization is Tambutronic mqusic. Roël Calister combined tambú beats with electronic dance music to create Tambutronic which is a musical genre. The book “Tour de Forces”, states “this genre uses traditional music in a popular context.”

This video is the sounds of the band     Kuenta I Tambu performing Tambutronic music. Sounds different! before this research I have never heard anything like this, but I like it!!

Another example of Creolization in The Caribbean is the creation of the empanadilla. " The empanadilla, or little empanada, is a pork-based dish created by culinary exchanges among Portuguese, Spanish, Native American, and Caribbean creoles.Anishanslin, Z. (n.d.). Creolization. The recipes project.

The above video is a description of the preparation and process of making "Puerto Rican" Empanadillas, makes you want to eat it through your screen!! Even though it says Puerto Rican, we know from the information above, that a combination of different cultures that gave rise to this dish.
